Small Business BC (legally registered as the Canada British Columbia Business Service Centre Society), is an independent and autonomous not-for-profit organization. The Board of Directors consists of up to 10 individuals recruited from the general public and small business community and two appointees from Western Diversification Canada and the Ministry of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development British Columbia.
Small Business BC exists so that people who have or start a small business in British Columbia (BC) have the information and resources they need to be successful and sustainable. The purpose of the board, on behalf of the people who value the establishment and growth of small business in British Columbia, is to see to it that Small Business BC:
- (a) achieves appropriate results for appropriate persons at an appropriate cost; and;
- (b) avoids unacceptable actions and situations.
The Board has adopted a “One Employee” operating policy founded in Carver | Ballantyne Results Governance, a process which places the burden of value for money on the Consulting Chief Executive Officer. Any requests for nformation must be presented to the Consulting Chief Executive Officer as the Board of Directors relies on the incumbent of this position for all communications and actions associated with the operation of Small Business BC.
