VANCOUVER- Small Business BC is pleased to announce its Board of Directors for 2010/11 fiscal year. This dynamic group of business professionals govern the operations of Small Business BC and oversee the organization’s growing network of services which directly support small business owners throughout the province.
Small Business BC CEO, George Hunter is pleased to note the 2010-11 Board of Directors is made up of a diverse group of leaders in the small business community. “Small Business BC’s Directors operate out in the marketplace, forging connections with established businesses that value the success of B.C.’s small business sector, and who support the organization’s vision to expand information products and services to entrepreneurs across the province,” says Hunter.
Judy Brooks, Partner at Bravo Lima OscarOver the last twenty years, Judy founded, built and successfully sold three companies, in both business to business and in consumer service categories. In the role of CEO Judy has led these companies through start-up, survival, turnaround and growth modes, the most recent venture being the successful first to market concept Blo Blow Dry Bar Inc. As an expert in business, brand and culture, Judy is asked to contribute advice and insight to media, as a keynote speaker and panelist. In addition to being a FWE Board Member and supporter, Judy sits on the Business Advisory Board for the Smart Cookies, and Young Women in Business and is a member of the Women’s President Organization.
Cheryl Carter, Vice President of Business in Vancouver Media GroupWith twenty-five years in the newspaper publishing business, Cheryl’s experience lies in sales, marketing and publishing operations. As the Vice President of Business in Vancouver Media Group, Cheryl’s responsibilities include group wide marketing, new revenue producing initiatives, and strategic alliances. She has experience working with and assisting all sizes and types of businesses, from retail to business services.
Sandra Miles, President & CEO Miles Employment Group Ltd.Sandra has over 25 years experience in the staffing industry in Vancouver, B.C. The Miles Employment is her second business venture and she has been recognized with the following accolades, Business in Vancouver 40 under 40 Achievement Award recipient and the YWCA Women of Distinction Nominee, Entrepreneur Category. Sandra has volunteered countless hours to assist non-profit organizations and she also sits on many influential boards and high profile committees.
Small Business BC’s Board Chair, Patrick Marshall, Founder of the Capital EDC Economic Development Company, notes that members of the Board are recruited from the small business community based on personal and professional skill sets. “After reviewing our existing Board assets, we determined Judy, Cheryl and Sandra were the best candidates because of their proven leadership skills, broad management experience in established companies, and reputation as successful entrepreneurs,” states Marshall. “We’d like to also recognize our existing volunteer Board members for their continued support and contributions,” concludes Marshall.
